Internship Information
Each year we welcome a summer intern to serve as our Program Assistant. Our ideal candidate is highly professional, organized, articulate, trustworthy, conscientious, and adaptable to the changing needs of the organization.  Candidates seeking a post-secondary degree towards a museum profession, with a positive “can do” attitude, good judgment, and an eagerness to make a difference are necessary for this role. The Program Assistant works in tandem with the Program Coordinator and reports to the Executive Director.

The Museumwise internship will incorporate administration and project management tasks essential to fulfilling the mission of our organization as well as a program specific project selected to best fit the interest and professional abilities of the intern.

Please contact us for more information about the internship program.

Support Museumwise

What does Museumwise mean to you?

This year has been full of transformative elements; a new political landscape, the ramping up of civic and social movements and devastating rollercoaster weather for the state.  These alone are instigators for any organization to self-reflect and analyze, and as you know Museumwise started this year formally embarking on a joint exploration with The Museum Association of New York to determine the best model to serve New York's museum and heritage community.

The importance of your feedback throughout the year has been incalculable for this exploration. We have affirmation of just how esteemed our service offerings are by our members. You clearly identified what you deem valuable, further emphasizing you are invested with us.  The flip side of that coin is how we strive to show our investment with you; you are the reason that we do what we do; you are the reason behind all of our offerings.

Each year we take stock:  who are we, who do we serve, and how do we serve them. The statistics are always impressive:

  • We are a network of museum professionals - both paid and unpaid from 54 of New York's 62 counties.
  • We are a community seeking enrichment as indicated by the 276 participants at our 2011 Museums in Conversation conference, 62 online course students, 108 workshop participants, and 27 Museum Institute at Sagamore contributors.
  • We are a conduit for NYSCA's Grants for Museum Advancement and NY Council for Humanities Special Go! grants providing $105,812 to 76 museums from 42 counties across New York.
  • We are a trusted source for advice, ideas and encouragement - answering hundreds calls & email inquiries providing assistance and advice and fostering field-wide engagement by disseminating 200 posts on Member's forum.

As a membership organization the generous support and involvement of our members is vital. You have unfailingly supported us and your field with your intellect, direct participation, and answering our calls for feedback. We now entreat you to support what you value in Museumwise through our Annual Appeal.

Your contribution to our Annual Appeal directly supports our efforts to provide resources, training and expertise to help New York's museums and heritage organizations.

We have set a modest goal for this year's Appeal at $3,000. As you consider your year-end giving, please join me in making a contribution in honor of what Museumwise has meant to you during this past year, and what you want to see it do in coming years.

You may submit your contribution by check to our address at 11 Ford Avenue, Oneonta, NY 13820 or contribute online using the Donate button below.

With best wishes for a joyful holiday season!
