As our two organizations await official legal consolidation by year's end, we thought it would be timely and meaningful to combine our separate year-end appeals into one and to ask for your philanthropic support of our collective future.

We began this journey with service to you and the state's museum community as our top priority. And we have been encouraged by your enthusiasm and informed by your vision for what our one consolidated organization can accomplish on your behalf.

Here is the value of our consolidation to you. Since the founding of our organizations, Museumwise and Many have provided a wealth of education, advocacy, networks of shared expertise, and encouragement to hundreds of museums and heritage organizations across the state. We've been here to respond to your questions, provide access to quality information, and offer mutual support. And we remain committed to doing this every day.

Our consolidation means that you and your institution will be able to find resources and make connections through one powerful portal. In doing so, we'll be eliminating duplication of back office operations, creating more robust ways to communicate with you, and delivering retooled programming and technical assistance.

We all face some very big challenges ahead in 2013. While we rejoice in the successes of our colleagues, many of our institutions struggle to retain staff and keep the lights on. Our critical funding partners also struggle to meet expanding needs with too few dollars. Now, more than ever before, our collective voice needs to be raised - and heard - at both the state and federal levels, and with the general public that the value museums and heritage organizations provide is central to a knowledge-based society. We are educators, stewards, creators, and employers. New York State's nearly 2,000 museums and heritage organizations do make a significant impact in and outside of the classroom and on local economies. Museumwise: MANY is here to help you tell that story.

We will be successful together- with you, our members and supporters. The consolidated process reminds us how important our Museumwise: MANY members and friends are to the strength and vitality of the new organization we've conceived together. Your gift to this year's Annual Appeal, over and above your annual membership, will support critical services that will help you sustain and expand the level of professional excellence for which New York State museums are known. We realize that there are many wonderful organizations competing for your charitable attention this season. We hope that Museumwise: MANY remains worthy of your generous support. On behalf of our board, which is spread across the state and, therefore, not able to sign this letter with us, we thank you.
