Rochester Historical Society
Rochester, NY
Project: The Rochester Historical Society, in need of an assessment of the storage needs of its clothing collection, will hire Gwen Spicer, noted textile conservator, to provide a priority checklist for both short and long term preservation action as well as to conduct an on-site training program for the Society’s staff and conservation volunteers in how to implement her recommendations.
Hopper House Art Center
Nyack, NY
Project: After completing the Get Ready! Grant process, board members, staff and advisory committee members began the process of developing a strategic plan. While the Hopper House has been in existence for over thirty years, there has never been a long-range plan in place to guide decision-making. As a result, momentum has been lost during periods in which board chairs, trustees or directors have changed. The current Director has a strong background in museum administration and program development, and it is now time to create a strategic plan with a consultant in order to prioritize, move forward and secure a strong foundation for the future.
Historic House Trust of New York City
New York, NY
Project: The Trust in an umbrella organization that supports the preservation, maintenance, and interpretation of 22 historic sites located within New York City parks. The Trust seeks to hire a consultant who will assist the Curator in developing a historic housekeeping program. With the Curator, the consultant will conduct a day-long workshop at one of the Trust’s properties and create a historic housekeeping manual, providing each house with the basic tools to clean and handle museum artifacts properly.
Walter Elwood Museum of the Mohawk Valley
Amsterdam, NY
Project: The Walter Elwood Museum of the Mohawk Valley would like to organize a facilitated series of brainstorming sessions with Greater Amsterdam School District teaching staff and community members to review interpretative themes for their collection as they relate to New York State Standards for Education. The goal is to produce an education plan for children (K-12) that will in turn foster family audience attendance and retention.
Historic Cherry Hill
Albany, NY
Project: Since its founding in 1964, Historic Cherry Hill has evolved from an all-volunteer organization to one staffed by three full-time professionals, six part-time support staff and about 40 active volunteers. Through the years, the museum has effectively utilized its staff and volunteers to develop an array of award-winning programs and publications, but now realizes that a variety of external and internal factors have impacted the ability of the museum to continue to function at a high level. Historic Cherry Hill seeks to bring in an outside, diplomatic and skilled facilitator to lead discussions and conduct necessary interviews with perspective staff and volunteers.
