Holdings: The 19th-century American collection includes works by Cole, Bierstadt, William and James, Hope, Page and Sully among others. Twentieth-century artists include Henri, Davies, Burchfield, Assael, Bigbee, Cadmus and Nerdrum. Matthias Arnot's collection of 17th- to 19th- century collection European art is housed in his original Picture Gallery he added to his home in the 1890s. The museum has small but important collections of Egyptian, Asian, Native American, and Pre-Columbian artifacts.

Holdings: Historical documents & collection from six-county region. Concentrations include documents on Elmira in the Civil War including the Elmira Confederate Prison Camp; settlement in the Valley including immigrants and African- Americans; social history of urban and rural populations; commercial, industrial and economic history; archeology and paleontology of the region; Ross Marvin's arctic explorations with Adm. Peary; and documentation on Mark Twain in Elmira.

Holdings: Archives of the Soaring Society of America; records of early National Soaring Contests. Extensive photo & moving image collections, detailing the history of U.S. motorless flight. Manuscript collections of many soaring pioneers. Extensive library contains over 1500 titles relating to motorless flight, general aviation, aircraft design/construction, and early aviation history. Archive of U.S. Soaring Certificate #1 holder, Ralph S. Barnaby. Over 4,000 soaring-related periodicals. Artifacts include fabric from original Wright 1903 Flyer, items from astronaut & Elmira native Eileen Collins (1st female Space Shuttle pilot & mission commander), and the world's largest collection of gliders and sailplanes.
